Because of this, the switch tends to stick a lot. You do get fairly nice customization of when and how it intervenes. All in all, this backup seemed promising to start out, but unexpected shutdowns from an "uninterruptible" power supply are simply inexcusable. The battery backup for the longest time seemed to work well. I tend to shut down quickly after an outage, so I have not really tested how long the battery will last. And you can view the number of interventions in the past 1, 4, 12, or 24 weeks, but you cannot pick any other intervals. This is exactly the opposite of what a UPS is designed for. It is a rather cheap toggle button rather than a rocker switch like most have.
It keeps track of how many times the unit has intervened, but you cannot get details on individual interventions except for the last one. The software is good, not great.
Twice, it has simply shut off while I was using my computer. I sometimes have to kick it to get the switch back up.
It has had to kick in several times since I bought it and had always kept my computer up and running. By this I mean it goes down and then doesn't spring back up, and the unit will not turn on or off until it springs back.
Better luck next time, APC. However, its latest behavior caused me to downgrade its rating to one star. After two years of reasonable service, it has begun to behave erratically and unacceptably.
It is supposed to keep your computer running, not shut it off unexpectedly.I have a major issue with the power switch.
This is not very powerful so could only support a smaller desktop or laptop. There is no Linux support (running Ubuntu 8.04). I have been using it on my laptop. I have had this for over 4 years now and have been very happy with it. There is a helpful windows program to shut down your PC in the case of a long term power loss.
This is a previous generation of the product. I returned it for an exchange specifying I wanted the BE650G and they sent me another repackaged BE650R. I ordered this because it said it was model BE650G. They sent a repackaged BE650R.
I am returning my unit to Amazon for a refund. It seems like APC has quality control issues, big time. I contacted APC and they wanted to replace it for me however I prefer to buy another product instead since I do not trust APC's workmanship. Out of the box, this battery backup was making a loud buzzing sound constantly, all the time, even after over 36 hours plugged in. Initially I thought it was the sound it makes while charging but it turns out it was defective.
The only con is I cannot find out how to bring the computer of hibernation. I shut the system down. I would recommend this for anyone with a computer. The ups worked as advertized. One day after installation had a power outage and it kept the system up.
